Description

Incredible, matching #s, rotisserie-restored, rare 4-speed 1970 Firebird Formula 400! Check out 131 pics for the "receipts" showing the quality throughout. Also watch the short walkaround video which includes this car's amazing muscle car sounds. An absolutely investment-quality specimen, this Firebird 400 is finished in it's factory correct (very rare) colors of Goldenrod Yellow over light saddle interior. This car was completely disassembled, including removal of front subframe, all glass, etc, before a total nut-and-bolt restoration was completed. It retains its original "WT" coded Pontiac 400 engine, original M21 4 speed transmission, & 12-bolt Safe-T-Track (posi) rear end which came w/optional 3.73:1 rear gearing. It's correct down to the #12 heads, correct exhaust manifolds, and matching numbers Quadrajet 4bbl carb. It is super hard to find a car that is this correct, especially one equipped with the M21. PHS docs show this Formula 400 was ordered like a muscle car should be, with few power-robbing/weight-gaining options to take away from the 400's 330 hp & 430 lb ft of torque. They include power steering, full tach/gauges, HD radiator & battery, radio, and white letter tires. Combined with the drivetrain choices made, this is an ideal configuration for the true Pontiac muscle car fan. One obvious & very interesting addition is the ridiculously rare dealer-installed chrome luggage rack that was also restored to show quality. One fact to remember is that non-Trans Ams were NOT available with a rear spoiler in 1970, so if you ever see a '70 with one installed, you know it's incorrect. EXTERIOR: This is a 100% rust-free car, with exceptionally straight & smooth body panels, beautiful gaps, & near flawless paint. The original fiberglass hood is in excellent condition & lays much better than most Formula hoods we've seen. Doors, hood, and trunk open/close effortlessly. All glass was removed and replaced during restoration (regulators rebuilt, new felts, etc), and all of the lights, housings, grilles, stainless, emblems, & chrome is new or like-new. 14" Rally II wheels have been restored, with correct lug nuts, repro stainless trim rings, & are wrapped in 225/70/14 BFG Radial TAs. INTERIOR: Everything has been completely restored from top to bottom, headliner to carpet. Nice little details include a new dome light cap, new seat belt retaining clips, new chrome lock knobs, etc. The optional Formula wheel is very nice, and a new Sony AM/FM/CD with aux input has replaced the original radio, along with new Pyle 6x9 speakers in back--all work great. ENGINE & CHASSIS: This is where the car really shines. Areas that most gloss over or forget about are done, and done right. From the correct 'unstickered' chrome air cleaner lid, to the correct red oxide primer under the car, to all new bushings front to back, the quality of this build is plain to see. As noted in the pics, the radiator was upgraded to an aluminum unit, and high quality bolt-on sub-frame connectors were added for better structural rigidity, which is especially appreciated when driving this car like it was meant to be driven. MECHANICALS: This car starts easily, the high idle works as it should, low idle is perfect, and the car runs, drives, turns, and stops exactly as it should. The rebuilt 400 has tons of power, and when you open up the secondaries, you can not only feel all 430 lb ft of torque, but you can hear it as well! The clutch works great, and shifts are precise with the M21. You definitely know you are in a muscle car when driving this thing, and for real car guys, that's a damn satisfying experience. This is one of the nicest, most well-built classic muscle cars we've had in recent memory, especially when considering how well all of the different elements of this restoration were done. No one will be disappointed when seeing this car in person, and we fully expect the 1st who does will take it home. Call to
